Platform & Features
Do I need to install software?
No. The SMS Manager platform is entirely web-based. All you need is a web browser and an internet connection. There is nothing to download or install.
Can I use a custom sender name instead of a phone number?
Yes. Bulk SMS Australia supports a custom alphanumeric sender ID of up to 11 characters, so recipients see your business or brand name as the sender rather than a mobile number. Note that since 1 July 2026 sender IDs must be registered on Australia’s SMS Sender ID Register — we can register yours for free (see below).
Does Bulk SMS Australia support two-way SMS?
Yes. Recipients can reply to your messages. Replies can be viewed on the web platform or forwarded automatically to an email address.
Can I have two-way conversations with customers?
Yes. The Chat feature shows replies as a natural back-and-forth conversation, so you can respond to customers one-to-one from your browser.
Can I schedule messages to send at a specific time?
Yes. The built-in message scheduler lets you set any future date and time for your messages to send — ideal for time-sensitive campaigns, appointment reminders, and scheduled alerts.
What is the maximum length of an SMS message?
Bulk SMS Australia supports long SMS messages of up to 765 characters, well beyond the standard 160-character SMS limit.
Can I send picture messages (MMS)?
Yes. Bulk SMS supports MMS, so you can send messages with images — ideal for offers, tickets and announcements.
Is there an AI writing assistant?
Yes. The built-in AI Writing Assistant helps you draft and polish your message — adjusting tone and length — right on the Send page.
Can I connect Claude or ChatGPT to my account?
Yes. You can securely connect an AI assistant like Claude or ChatGPT to your account to check your balance, look up replies and send messages using your credits — under permissions you control and can revoke at any time.
Can I personalise messages with recipients’ names?
Yes. The platform supports message personalisation, so you can address each recipient by name or include individual details even when sending to large lists.
Can I manage my contact list?
Yes. SMS Manager includes full contact management: save contacts, create groups, upload existing mobile number databases, and send to specific groups in seconds.
Can I track whether messages were delivered?
Yes. Delivery tracking lets you confirm whether each message was received on the recipient’s phone. A complete history of all outgoing and incoming messages is kept and can be exported to Excel.
Can I integrate SMS with my own systems?
Yes. Bulk SMS offers a modern REST API with live documentation, real-time webhooks, a Zapier connection and email-to-SMS — all included free. See our SMS Integration options.
Can multiple users access the same account?
Yes. Multi-user accounts are supported, making the platform suitable for teams where multiple staff members need access.
SMS Sender ID Register
What is the SMS Sender ID Register?
Since 1 July 2026, businesses that send SMS from a name (an alphanumeric sender ID) must have that name listed on Australia’s SMS Sender ID Register — introduced by the ACMA to reduce scam texts. Messages from unregistered sender IDs are labelled “Unverified” by the phone carriers and grouped in with suspected scams. Learn more about the Sender ID Register.
Can Bulk SMS register my sender ID for me?
Yes. Bulk SMS is a registered originating telco on the ACMA register, so we can lodge your sender ID registration for you — correctly and free of charge. Registration is free, and it usually takes between 1 day and 1 week.
Do I need an ABN to register a sender ID?
An ABN isn’t strictly mandatory, but it’s strongly recommended — registration is slower and more difficult without one. If you have an ABN, we register your sender ID against it.
What happens if I don’t register my sender ID?
Messages sent from an unregistered sender ID are flagged “Unverified” and grouped with suspected scam messages, so your reminders, codes and alerts can look untrustworthy to your customers. Registering removes the label.
